NOTE TO SELF – This has been a week of finishings. Completing tasks. Completing artwork. I have hand stitched the binding and backing for one art quilt, almost finished a second, mounted a piece onto plywood, straightened shelves and organized my work space. I even vacuumed the studio. Things they don’t tell you in art school… this is all part of the process. Moving from one group of projects to the next. This creates in me a sense of order and readiness. Now I can think about what I will be working on next. I am ready to begin several pretty large works in the series of the girl’s journey. The work of this week has allowed me to prepare a place for her – both the physical cleaning in the studio and the clearing of my creative impulses. So, now it’s time for the reminder. “Dear Self. Time for a change. It’s time to be out of task-completion mode for a while. These works will need time and thought to explore deeply. Don’t be shallow. Don’t think small.”
