“Transcribing the Distance” is an abstract landscape. I was inspired by the resist-printed fabric which comprises the bottom section; the burnt sienna under-painting gave a rich depth to the deeper brown over-painting. I wanted to explore these complements in the composition. The fading forms top left and the blank space in the middle are suggestive to me of a look across a distance, the other elements defining that space.
