I discovered these intriguing gate shapes opening into an alleyway in downtown DeLand, Florida, where I live. (I transferred my photos to fabric for collage.) What’s behind the gate? How do you get in? The patterns and possible stories provide subject matter for exploration.

How I create a paper collage: I begin by prepping the watercolor paper substrate. I gesso it and stretch it. The individual pieces applied to the collage are all original prints and direct painted pieces of fabric or thin paper. Elements in this work have been created by photo transfer to fabric, monotype printing, relief printing, and screen printing.
