This quilt was awarded Second place in the Florida statewide “Nature Inspired Art” contest sponsored by The Nature Conservancy and exhibited October - December 2021.

I was inspired by a drive by Lake Talmadge (in my hometown of DeLand, Florida) and being drawn to an image of the sun on the water and the patterns of the shadows of the water lilies. I took some photos and had them enlarged and printed on poplin fabric. Then I hand printed and hand painted additional fabrics to coordinate with the photograph. I abstracted patterns and explored a violet color palette. The addition of a heron and an egret completed the water-life composition..

The piece is worked in squares, collaged and stitch construction, with machine stitched details. Acrylic paints and mediums. Finishing: bound and backed with hand-painted fabric. The back has a hanging pocket and a rod, for traditional hanging tapestry presentation. The surface is sealed with acrylic medium.
