Viewed individually, we marvel at an animal’s complexity and delicacy. Scales, feathers, fins… bodies so unlike our own. Viewed en masse, we marvel at the patterns of movement their schools and flocks create. Fish swerve in unison. Birds swoosh and glide synchronously. The printmaker in me longed to explore monotype-printed patterns and forms as a way to recreate those beautiful moving masses, working in two large whole-cloth sections. In the rhythm of surface design I experienced the music of their dance.

Acrylics on fabric. Monotype printing by hand and direct painting with archival acrylic paints. Collage construction and machine stitching and quilting. Finishing: bound and fabric-backed. The back has a hanging pocket and a rod, for traditional hanging tapestry presentation. All collaging is with archival matte acrylic medium, (which is invisible) also used over the surface for protection.
