Overgrown Conversation - Art Quilt

$800.00

Overgrown Conversation
24” x 36”

Discarded, overgrown windows in the corner of the garden inspired this work. By themselves, they speak to issues of perspective: what we see through them, what we see reflected. Being cast aside and stacked the frames also presented visual perspectives. The overgrown weeds and vines suggested to me the passage of time, and I wondered what conversations might have occurred in the garden that have also been discarded , becoming likewise overgrown.

The little birds are messengers of the story. Or – perhaps – they are the ones in conversation.

Collage construction and machine stitched. Hand printed fabrics on white sheer and  natural muslin. Original photos transferred to muslin. All images created with archival acrylic paints; all construction and sealing with archival acrylic medium.

Finishing: bound and backed with charcoal-colored eco felt. The back has a hanging pocket and a rod, for traditional hanging tapestry presentation.

This work was juried for exhibition in “Perspectives,” a group show sponsored by SAQA Florida Region in LeMoyne Arts, Tallahassee, Florida where it exhibited in Summer, 2019.
