Look Through to the Memory
42” x 42”W

This work exhibited in VISIONS 2020 at the Visions Art Museum, San Diego, CA , October 2020 - January 2021. It was awarded the Miriam Machall Award of Beauty in the exhibit.

An invitation to enter a memory and a dream. The figure of a little girl joins a few small birds in a landscape formed by an ethereal tree-filled space and a large window. The empty floating chair suggest absence and a place of remembering.

The work is created with archival acrylic paints and mediums on fabric. Image-making includes monotype printing, resists, stenciling, direct painting, and digital transfer of an original photo on muslin. Collaged and sewn construction with surface machine stitching for texture. The surface is sealed with acrylic medium.

Finishing: bound and backed with hand-painted fabric. The back has a hanging pocket and a rod, for traditional hanging tapestry presentation.

“As I worked on “Look Through to the Memory,” I allowed myself to enter the dream and the story. I remembered being that little girl. I remembered feeling like I was in a dreamscape sometimes. Working in layers as I built the piece invited hands-on involvement in the narrative.
