I wonder if I could do it again?

This is what got me inspired this weekend.

This is a detail of a paper collage in progress. I just like this section a lot.

I like the un-defined, intriguing shape that’s behind the orange-red overlay. And Iike the way that semi-transparent layer created a deep, interesting color.

So I wanted to see if I could reproduce the effect.

Sometimes in creating hand-printed papers the effects are intentional.

Sometimes I get what I get and I am surprised. (My hope is that most of the surprises are good ones.)

I like the improvisational nature of hand printing. I don’t want it to become rote, where I just crank out the same thing in each printing session.

Still, this pattern interests me enough to want to play with it some more.

I know I created the shape the first time with a hand-cut stencils. I decided to add a few more to my vocabulary. I cut these from manila file folders.

Ready to rock n roll.

I started out printing very muted colors. I think the intensity should be added after I print and collage, with vibrant transparent overlay of acrylic. That’s why these prints look a little flat.

After a few hours I have a nice assortment of patterns and colors.

I’m looking forward to taking these printed pieces and using them to create new collaged original artworks..

. . . . . . . . . .

I enjoy studio visits. There’s a great opportunity coming soon: Mark your calendars!

I will open my studio doors March 5-6 and welcome guests on this self-guided studio tour. Twelve artists in the DeLand area are participating. You drive from studio-to-studio, visiting all or just the ones that interest you, at your own pace, for FREE!. I hope if you are near Central Florida you will plan a day to visit DeLand and my studio. Find out more about the artists on the tour and see the map, here:
