Go out into it.  Sit on the porch step. Feel the evening air. Breathe it in. Let the air enfold you.  Become one with its sounds…

This work began with a very powerful tug. I had photographed my neighbor sitting on my porch step. I was drawn to the thought-provoking quality of the pose. Although I photographed in the sunlight, I saw this as a night scene, and envisioned from the outset creating a unity between the figure and her setting. The process started with blank fabric. Using acrylics, I printed and painted the pieces, collaged the construction, and incorporated drawing and machine stitching.

The work is created with archival acrylic paints and mediums on fabric. The surface is sealed with a coating of acrylic medium.

Finishing: bound and backed with hand-painted fabric. The back has a hanging pocket and a rod, for traditional hanging tapestry presentation. It hangs from a center D-ring on a regular picture hook.

This quilt iexhibited in SAQA’s Global Exhibit “Beyond the Mirror.”, premiering at the Lovelend Museum, Loveland, CO in spring of 2021 then at the IQF Quilt Show in Houston in October, 2021. It traveled to other venues throughout 2022 - 2023.
